## Technip Energies: an engineering assessment across refining, petrochemicals and offshore facilities

EPC Feed engineering assessment. Published 2026-10-25; Updated 2026-10-25T21:48:09.855Z.

Technip Energies presents an unusually clear range of engineering roles across three current assignments: full EPC for refinery units at HPCL’s operating Mumbai refinery, detailed engineering for an ADNOC Offshore EPCIC development led by L&T, and technology licensing, process design and FEED for Petkim’s proposed Aliağa complex. The different contract stages matter. They show a contractor whose contribution can begin with technology and concept definition, continue through detailed engineering, or extend into procurement and construction. The scopes make a favorable case on their own: each places Technip Energies at a technically important point in the project lifecycle. [Source 2, 3, 4]

At Mumbai, HPCL’s Lube Modernization and Bottom Upgradation project includes a 550 KTA integrated hydrocracker and catalytic dewaxing unit and an 850 KTA solvent deasphalting unit. Technip Energies has the EPC contract for those units, which are to be integrated into an operating refinery. That combination makes the assignment technically interesting: the work has to add new process capability while interfacing with a live, established site. The company’s release links the units to lube-oil base stocks and upgrading heavier refinery streams, giving the project a defined product and resource-use rationale. [Source 2]

The brownfield setting is the strongest engineering observation in the HPCL case. Integration is not a side task when the new units form part of an operating refinery; it is central to the value of the package. Tie-ins, utilities, process interfaces and execution planning must fit the host facility. Although shutdown and design-basis details await further disclosure, Technip Energies has EPC responsibility across the two units, a strong fit where process design and site integration are closely linked. Petkim’s Aliağa development shows the earlier end of the project lifecycle. Technip Energies was awarded the mixed-feed ethylene-cracker licence and integrated PDP and FEED services. The planned complex includes a cracker designed for about 1,200 KTA ethylene and 550 KTA propylene, alongside two 425 KTA HDPE/LLDPE trains and a 550 KTA polypropylene plant. The dimensions make integration the defining issue: feed, cracker products and downstream polymer units are conceived as one complex, rather than as isolated capacity additions. That is a meaningful engineering proposition before investment approval. [Source 4]

The sequencing in the Petkim announcement deserves emphasis. Licensing, process design and FEED help establish technical foundations, but the release explicitly places this work before a final investment decision. It would be inaccurate to treat the proposed complex as approved or under construction. Editorially, the value of this assignment lies in shaping a decision-ready project: technical definition can clarify interfaces and plant configuration before the owner commits capital. Technip Energies’ role is therefore substantial in engineering terms while remaining distinct from a construction award. [Source 4]

For ADNOC Offshore, Technip Energies is providing detailed engineering services to L&T Energy Hydrocarbon, whose consortium received the EPCIC award. The overall project includes new offshore facilities and modifications and upgrades to existing infrastructure. That is a different profile from the two land-based process packages: the engineering contractor must support the design of new facilities while accommodating brownfield changes in an offshore operating environment. The announcement keeps asset and equipment details at a high level, while making the role division clear: Technip Energies provides detailed engineering within a broader consortium EPCIC package. That specialist contribution complements L&T’s lead delivery role. [Source 3]

Together, these awards support a favorable, measured view of Technip Energies’ engineering breadth. The record spans refining, petrochemicals and offshore facilities, with responsibilities ranging from technology selection and FEED through detailed engineering and EPC. The compelling evidence is the concrete scope and the distinct integration challenge in each package. The firm is positioned to contribute across several technically demanding points in project development and execution. As updates emerge, the clear responsibilities will make it possible to follow how those capabilities are applied. [Source 2, 3, 4]
