Bechtel and ENKA have marked the opening of Sections 8 and 9 of Serbia's Morava Corridor motorway. The 1 July 2026 announcement identifies a new 28.7-kilometre stretch between the Preljina–Čačak and Adrani–Kraljevo interchanges. More than 100 kilometres of the planned 112-kilometre motorway are now in service, with one section remaining. The milestone therefore concerns a substantial additional opening rather than completion of the entire corridor.

The route follows the West Morava River valley and links central Serbia with Pan-European Corridors X and XI. Bechtel reports that 82% of project procurement has been delivered through Serbian businesses and that approximately 4,200 craft professionals were employed at peak construction. These are company-reported figures for procurement and peak workforce, not a current headcount or a claim that every contract was placed locally.

The wider project includes approximately 36 kilometres of river regulation, 13 kilometres of river diversions, 28 kilometres of dykes and more than 160 large culverts. Its completed configuration is planned to include 82 bridges, 13 interchanges and smart traffic systems. Those whole-corridor quantities should not be attributed solely to the newly opened 28.7-kilometre section.

EPC Feed sees the combination of motorway and river works as the defining engineering feature of the update. Road connectivity and flood protection are linked delivery concerns in this setting: an opening makes transport infrastructure available, while drainage and river-management works address how that infrastructure fits into the surrounding valley. The listed quantities demonstrate the breadth of the civil scope, without establishing a numerical reduction in flood probability or proving performance under a particular future storm.

Phased opening also creates a clearer basis for tracking delivery than a single undifferentiated completion claim. The newly available sections can be identified geographically, while the remaining section and the final corridor configuration stay visible as separate milestones. For procurement observers, the local purchasing share gives context about participation in the works already reported. Subsequent updates should retain the distinction between the July opening, eventual full completion and any independently measured transport or flood-protection outcomes.
