Webuild announced on 23 October 2026 that tunnel boring machine Micaela had reached Carmen de la Legua, the final scheduled station breakthrough on its Lima Metro Line 4 section. The station is planned as an interchange with Line 2. This is an excavation milestone, rather than confirmation that the section is open to passengers. A breakthrough represents one stage within a wider underground transport programme.

Carmen de la Legua is Micaela's eighth and final station on this section; shaft arrival for dismantling is expected in November. Micaela and Delia have excavated more than 20 kilometres combined. That cumulative figure should not be assigned to each machine separately or confused with the length of Line 4 alone.

Commissioned by Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications, the programme spans 35 kilometres: 27 on Line 2 and eight on part of Line 4, across ten districts. Webuild projects that the completed Ate–Callao connection will reduce journeys from two hours and 45 minutes to 45 minutes. This is an intended future benefit, rather than a measured result from a fully operating route.

EPC Feed views Carmen de la Legua's interchange role as central to interpreting the milestone. Tunnel excavation establishes part of the physical connection, while the usefulness of an interchange ultimately depends on the connected lines and passenger facilities working together. The announcement does not establish that all those interfaces have been commissioned. It is therefore more informative to identify the completed excavation event than to describe the entire network as finished.

The next disclosed step for Micaela is the expected shaft arrival and dismantling. Subsequent progress should be tracked through separately confirmed milestones for the remaining works, systems and readiness for service. Preserving the difference between an excavation achievement and operational completion gives readers a clearer view of what has advanced. No opening date or independently verified journey-time saving is assigned to this breakthrough on the basis of the announcement alone.
