## Key facts

- Combined volume: Up to 4 mtpa
- Sabine Pass share: 2 mtpa; 1 mtpa conditional on positive FID for phase one expansion
- Corpus Christi share: 2 mtpa
- Delivery basis: Free on board (FOB)
- Delivery period: Expected to start in 2031 and continue through 2054

QatarEnergy signed two long-term sale and purchase agreements with Cheniere on 22 October for up to a combined 4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of US liquefied natural gas. Cheniere’s release assigns 2 mtpa to Sabine Pass in Louisiana and 2 mtpa to Corpus Christi in Texas. QatarEnergy says deliveries are anticipated to begin in 2031 and continue through 2054; Cheniere describes the start as the early 2030s. Both releases say the volumes are delivered free on board (FOB).

The agreements are with Cheniere subsidiaries Sabine Pass Liquefaction and Corpus Christi Liquefaction. Cheniere says the purchase price is indexed to Henry Hub plus a fixed fee; neither company publishes the fee amount or a total contract value. FOB is the named delivery basis, but the releases do not give a cargo schedule, vessel details or destination-by-destination allocation. The facilities supplying the contracted LNG are in the United States, while the buyer is QatarEnergy. The agreement does not specify that the LNG will be delivered to Qatar or a particular market.

One Sabine Pass tranche has an explicit condition: 1 mtpa of its 2 mtpa is subject to a positive final investment decision for the first phase of Cheniere’s Sabine Pass expansion. Cheniere says that phase is expected to include Train 7, a boil-off-gas reliquefaction unit, supporting infrastructure and tie-ins, with expected peak output above 6 mtpa including estimated debottlenecking. These are Cheniere’s project plans, not commitments by QatarEnergy to finance or build the expansion.

Cheniere also says a lump-sum turnkey EPC contract for the expansion’s first phase was signed with Bechtel Energy in May 2026, with a limited notice to proceed for early engineering and procurement. That is an existing project milestone disclosed in Cheniere’s release; the QatarEnergy purchase agreements themselves are LNG supply contracts and do not announce a new EPC award, construction start or final investment decision.

QatarEnergy describes the purchases as a way to diversify its global LNG portfolio and complement existing supplies. The contract terms set out a long delivery horizon, but not when the full annual volume will be reached or how cargoes will be allocated. The confirmed development is a future supply arrangement tied to US export facilities, with one Sabine Pass volume conditional on an investment decision.
