Saipem completed lifting operations for the gas recovery module of Libya's Bouri Gas Utilization Project, the company announced on 3 June 2026. The Saipem 7000 crane vessel installed the module on the existing offshore platform. The milestone concerns a major equipment lift within an ongoing project; the source explicitly identifies further integration and commissioning activities after the installation, so it does not describe the whole gas recovery system as already operational.

Rosetti Marino fabricated the module at its Marina di Ravenna yard for Saipem, the project's main EPCI contractor. Fabrication took approximately two years. The structure weighs more than 5,200 tonnes and measures about 45 metres by 31 metres, with a height of roughly 45 metres. It departed the yard in early May for transport to the Bouri field, approximately 170 kilometres off Libya's coast, before the offshore lifting operation.

The module contains gas treatment systems and forms part of the new infrastructure being added to the field. Following installation, Rosetti Marino is to continue work within Saipem's offshore scope. The next activities include integration on DP4, hook-up and commissioning of the plant and its communication, safety and control systems. These tasks explain why installation of a heavy module is an important construction step while remaining distinct from completion of the full operating system.

Pre-commissioning is also planned for approximately 28 kilometres of subsea pipelines that have already been laid. Those lines connect the DP3, DP4 and Sabratha platforms and are intended to carry recovered gas towards the Mellitah treatment complex. The pipeline length describes the connected transport infrastructure, not the dimensions of the newly lifted module. The release places both elements within the same gas utilisation project while identifying their different construction and readiness stages.

Mellitah Oil & Gas, a joint venture between Eni and Libya's NOC, is developing the project to recover associated gas that would otherwise be flared. Saipem reports an intended emissions benefit of 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year and production potential of approximately two million cubic metres per day. These are project objectives stated in the source, rather than independently verified operating results from the June lift. The confirmed event is installation of the module, with the remaining system-integration work still forming part of execution.
