G42 and partners explore AI factory and government applications in Greece

The Abu Dhabi group and five portfolio companies signed exploratory memoranda covering data-centre infrastructure, AI cloud and compute, government services, life sciences and smart-city analytics.

Abu Dhabi-based G42 and five portfolio companies signed memoranda of understanding with Greek public- and private-sector partners in Athens on 22 October, according to G42’s announcement. The signings took place during an official UAE visit that included the UAE–Greece Business Forum. The stated areas are AI infrastructure, government services, life sciences and smart cities. The memoranda describe areas for exploration and cooperation, not final investment decisions or construction awards. The release does not specify a project value, a data-centre capacity, a site, a delivery schedule or definitive agreements. The news is therefore the formation of a cross-border programme of exploratory partnerships rather than confirmation that an AI factory will be built.

The infrastructure workstream involves Copelouzos Group, Khazna Data Centers and Core42. They will explore developing an AI factory in Greece by combining data-centre facilities with cloud and compute capabilities. G42 says Khazna would lead physical infrastructure development and Core42 would supply cloud and AI compute. The proposed users named in the announcement include banking, telecommunications, shipping and government. Khazna describes its business as designing, building and operating data centres; Core42 describes itself as a cloud and AI infrastructure provider, including sovereign cloud services. Those company descriptions help explain the proposed division of roles, but they do not establish a project design or confirm that the proposed facility will proceed.

The agreements also cover applications outside the physical compute layer. Presight will work with Greece’s Ministry of Digital Governance to explore AI-based urban analytics and real-time intelligence for public safety, urban mobility and municipal operations. The initial demonstrations are to examine municipal waste management and water-network monitoring using intelligent analytics and synthetic or open data. Presight’s corporate profile describes its work in applied intelligence and data analytics across government and infrastructure sectors. The announcement does not specify which systems will be integrated, what data will be accessible, how long pilots will run or what operational performance measures will be used.

Other G42 portfolio companies are included in separate workstreams. Inception42 will explore agentic AI for government and education, including tools to support cabinet meetings, monitor government priorities, train public officials and develop AI tutoring and learning platforms. M42 signed an MoU with Athens LifeTech Park covering research, genomics infrastructure, population genomics, clinical development and links between institutional biobanks. The plan includes potential two-way access for UAE start-ups and Greek or European ventures, subject to the parties defining the work. These are areas under discussion, not confirmed service deployments or commercial launches.

The agreements extend G42’s stated Intelligence Grid concept into Europe. G42 describes that proposition as an integrated chain spanning data centres and advanced computing through cloud infrastructure and sector applications. The release says planned projects would be developed in line with European Union regulations and standards, while defining the immediate step as partner exploration. An Emirates News Agency report published on 23 October covers the same signings and workstreams; it corroborates the event but is based on the same announcement, so it is not independent evidence. For project monitoring, the next evidence needed is a definitive agreement or an official update naming sites, capacity, financing, schedule and pilot results. None is supplied in the 22 October announcement.
