JGC Holdings

JGC Holdings is a Yokohama-based holding company for a group that provides engineering, procurement and construction services for plants and facilities in energy, healthcare and life science, industrial and urban infrastructure, and resource recycling. Its 2026 releases include an engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning award for the Coral North floating LNG project in Mozambique and a notice to proceed for Phase 2 of the LNG Canada export facility.

JGC: linking LNG process integration with offshore fabrication and execution

By EPC Feed · Published · Updated

JGC’s LNG credentials are illustrated by two project settings that place different demands on engineering and construction teams: a new floating LNG vessel offshore Mozambique and a possible second phase at Canada’s operating LNG Canada site. In Coral North, JGC France is part of a joint venture with Technip Energies France and Samsung Heavy Industries. The June 2026 award covers engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning for an FLNG facility rated at approximately 3.6 million tonnes per year, to be installed about 50 kilometres offshore northern Mozambique. The contract is lump-sum turnkey, with production scheduled for 2028 according to JGC. The breadth of the EPCIC label is important: the scope spans topside process facilities and project management as well as hull engineering, construction and module fabrication across the partners.4

The division of work is clearly described. JGC France and Technip Energies, through their joint venture, are primarily responsible for engineering and procurement of the FLNG topsides and overall project management. Samsung Heavy Industries is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of the hull and fabrication of topside modules. This arrangement makes interface control central to the engineering task: topside process requirements must be reconciled with vessel design, module dimensions, fabrication sequence, integration and offshore installation. That is an engineering interpretation of the documented package split, rather than a claim that every interface risk has been eliminated.4

The company’s Coral North announcement places the project within a continuing Mozambique relationship. It reports that the same three groups completed Coral South, which delivered its first LNG cargo in 2022 and is producing. Coral North is described as the second FLNG development in Mozambique. The positive engineering significance is a repeat project context: design and delivery knowledge from an earlier floating facility can inform a later project in the same region and among continuing partners. The source does not detail which Coral South systems or personnel carry over, so the assessment does not infer technical replication or guaranteed schedule performance.4

LNG Canada Phase 2 shows a different way JGC’s engineering capability is being deployed. JGC and Fluor received a limited notice to proceed in June 2026 for the proposed expansion at Kitimat. The same joint venture delivered Phase 1 services across engineering, procurement, fabrication management, construction and commissioning, and JGC says it delivered the first two trains in 2025. A limited notice to proceed is a defined early authorization; it is not equivalent to a final investment decision for Phase 2. JGC’s release describes the Phase 2 expansion as potentially doubling the site’s production capacity if the client achieves FID.6

The value of the LNG Canada assignment rests partly on continuity. JGC and Fluor already know the facility from the first phase, which can support design alignment, construction planning and integration with existing operations. The available announcement explicitly frames the LNTP period as work to improve project certainty ahead of a potential client FID. That is a measured, credible role at the development stage: bring execution experience forward to define the next project, while recognizing that approval to proceed remains with the owner. The release notes that Phase 1 has approximately 14 million tonnes per year capacity and a 40-year licence, providing context for the scale of the existing asset.6

Taken together, the two projects show range within a focused LNG practice. Coral North is a new offshore floating facility under a full EPCIC arrangement, while LNG Canada Phase 2 is an early-stage expansion engagement following JGC-Fluor’s completed first-phase work. JGC’s role in Coral North is shared and package-specific; its Phase 2 work remains under a limited notice. The favorable assessment is therefore based on documented experience with topside and hull interfaces, multi-company project execution and continuity from an operating LNG development. The sources do not publish detailed engineering hours, plant performance guarantees or final Phase 2 scope, so the conclusion is about demonstrated engineering settings and roles, not comparative rankings.46
