The ARGE Uniper-ENKA Dradenau partnership achieved first fire of Gas Turbine 1 on 30 September 2026 at its combined heat and power project in Germany. ENKA reported the milestone on 9 October, describing the transition into hot commissioning. The development is intended to supply Hamburg with electricity and district heating. First fire is a commissioning event and should remain distinct from a declaration that the entire plant has achieved commercial operation.

The disclosed configuration comprises two Siemens SGT-800 gas turbines, one steam turbine, two heat recovery steam generators and an additional gas-fired steam generator. At completion, the plant is designed for 180 MW of electrical output and 260 MW of district-heating capacity. These are different energy services; the figures should not be added together and described as electrical generating capacity.

ENKA reported 96.5% project completion at the end of September. Its update also states that power-block structural steel and building envelopes were complete, with mechanical and electrical works in their final stages. Water-treatment and key-system commissioning, together with backfeed energisation, preceded the turbine ignition. Those are the company's dated progress statements, not a fresh assessment of the plant's status after the report.

For EPC Feed, the sequence makes the milestone more informative than ignition in isolation. Supporting systems and electrical supply form part of the readiness needed to move from assembly towards operation. The reported first fire indicates advancement in that sequence, while integrated performance and completion of remaining works represent separate questions. A single operating turbine event cannot establish that every heat and power system has satisfied its final acceptance requirements.

The project also illustrates why combined heat and power developments need their outputs described carefully. Electrical delivery and heat-network service address different users and operating interfaces. Later announcements identifying sustained operation, acceptance or handover would provide a firmer basis for assessing completed delivery. The current update records entry into hot commissioning, with the stated capacities and September completion percentage retained within their original scope and reporting date.
