KBR invests in Geolith to advance integrated lithium extraction offering

The investment builds on the companies' 2024 alliance linking Li-Capt extraction with KBR's PureLi refining and conversion technology.

KBR has made a strategic investment in Geolith to support commercial deployment of direct lithium extraction technology. Announced on 30 April 2026, the investment extends an exclusive alliance established between the companies in 2024. The release does not disclose the amount invested, an ownership percentage or a change of control. It should therefore be recorded as an investment and collaboration milestone, rather than described as an acquisition of the entire company.

France-based Geolith develops the Li-Capt extraction process. The partners intend to combine that technology with KBR's PureLi refining and conversion technology, creating an offering extending from extraction to battery-grade lithium production. The announcement identifies opportunities involving traditional brines and produced water from the upstream energy industry. Those are target resource categories, not a list of commissioned plants or confirmed production volumes.

The companies present the investment as support for commercial-scale deployment and a global project pipeline. They do not publish verified recovery rates, operating-cost figures or a quantified environmental comparison for a named facility. The proposed integrated offering and its intended market role should remain separate from performance that has actually been demonstrated on an individual customer's project.

EPC Feed considers the connection between extraction and downstream conversion the important engineering feature. Recovering a material from a source and producing a specification suitable for a battery supply chain are related but distinct tasks. Combining technologies creates a framework for considering that interface, but a project still needs defined feed characteristics, product requirements and supporting plant systems. The investment announcement does not supply those details for any particular site.

Future project-specific disclosures would allow the commercial pathway to be assessed more precisely. A named customer, agreed scope and installation or commissioning milestones would show how the combined offering moves into delivery. Until then, the reliable event is KBR's additional commitment to the Geolith relationship. It strengthens the announced route towards deployment without establishing an undisclosed valuation, guaranteed extraction performance or an operating lithium supply chain solely through the existence of the investment.
