Saipem secured a $1 billion offshore contract for the Greater PAJ project in Angola, the company announced on 22 June 2026. The award comes from Azule Energy Exploration Angola Limited and Azule Energy Angola B.V., subsidiaries of the incorporated joint venture owned by Eni and bp. Saipem describes the package as mainly transportation and installation services, with an expected duration of around 40 months for the announced scope.
Greater PAJ is located approximately 200 kilometres off Angola's coast. The contract includes engineering, fabrication, transportation and installation of approximately 180 kilometres of rigid pipelines and subsea facilities. Water depths reach up to 2,000 metres. The distance offshore identifies the project's location, while the pipeline length and water depth describe different technical characteristics of the work; they should remain separate when summarising the scale of the package.
Additional scope covers transportation and installation of 38 kilometres of flexible flowlines and jumpers and 54 kilometres of umbilicals. The release gives these as distinct categories alongside the rigid-pipeline scope. The announcement therefore identifies several different subsea system elements rather than a single undifferentiated length of pipe. It does not allocate separate contract prices to each category or identify them as independently awarded projects in the same disclosure.
Fabrication is planned at Saipem's Ambriz yard in Angola, with participation by local companies and workers. For offshore installation, the contractor plans to deploy FDS and Castorone. These details connect the industrial work in Angola with the marine campaign required to install the fabricated equipment. The announced vessel plan is part of the delivery approach and should not be interpreted as confirmation that every offshore installation activity had already been completed in June.
The award extends Saipem's relationship with Azule Energy and its use of an established Angolan fabrication base. Its project-specific content includes the customer entities, duration, subsea quantities, depth range and intended construction vessels. These details allow the Greater PAJ package to be tracked separately from other Angolan subsea awards, including work on different fields or development phases. The event reported is the contract award, with fabrication, mobilisation and offshore installation forming subsequent stages of the contractor's execution programme rather than completed outcomes implied by the contract value.
