Sun Peak Metals said on 22 October that a 3,000-metre diamond-drilling programme with two rigs was underway at its 100%-owned Safra volcanogenic massive sulphide project in Saudi Arabia. The company says the work will test extensions of copper-zinc mineralisation with associated gold and silver at Safra Main, the untested Safra North gravity anomaly and Safra East, a parallel trend about 1.5 kilometres east of Safra Main. These are exploration targets; the announcement reports no assay results from the current programme.
The programme follows maiden drilling completed in May 2026: ten holes totalling 1,242 metres at Safra Main and Safra South. Sun Peak reported mineralised intervals in all seven holes drilled at Safra Main. The October release repeats selected earlier assays, including 39.0 metres grading 1.38% copper and 0.84% zinc in hole SAF26DD008, with an included 17.75-metre interval at 1.60% copper and 1.58% zinc. These results were reported on 8 September and are not new October assays.
The September release gives additional context for SAF26DD005: a 19.42-metre interval grading 1.17% copper, 2.59% zinc and 22.35 grams per tonne silver, plus a separate 13-metre interval with copper, zinc, lead, silver and gold. The reported intervals are core lengths; Sun Peak says true widths are not yet known. The results are drill intersections, not a mineral resource or reserve estimate.
Sun Peak says recent induced-polarisation and time-domain electromagnetic surveys outlined chargeability anomalies at Safra Main, East and North, and that it is integrating the data with gravity, geology and geochemistry to refine targets. The October release says interpretation is ongoing and anomalies can arise from sources other than sulphide mineralisation. Safra covers about 93 square kilometres in the Nuqrah VMS Belt, approximately 185 kilometres northeast of Medina.
After Safra, the company plans maiden drilling at Al Miyah and is advancing targets on Round 9 licences toward potential early-2027 drilling. Those are forward plans, not completed work. Sun Peak says current programmes remain unaffected by regional conflicts while it monitors conditions and prioritises personnel and contractor safety. The disclosed milestone is a second exploration campaign; no resource estimate, construction decision or development schedule is announced.
