Technip Energies has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for the Lube Modernization and Bottom Upgradation (LMBU) project at the Mumbai Refinery in Maharashtra, India, the company announced on 12 October 2026.
The contract covers two units that form a major part of the project: a 550 kilotonnes-per-annum Integrated Hydrocracker and Catalytic Dewaxing (IHCD) unit and an 850 kilotonnes-per-annum Solvent Deasphalting (SDA) unit. Both will be integrated within the operating refinery.
According to Technip Energies, the project will modernise HPCL’s production of lube oil base stocks, used to make automotive engine oils and industrial lubricants, and upgrade heavier refinery streams into higher-value products.
Value
The contract price was not published. Technip Energies classes the award as “large”, a category it defines as between €250 million and €500 million of revenue, and will record it in the Project Delivery segment’s backlog in the third quarter of 2026.
This award by HPCL reflects the confidence placed in our EPC delivery capabilities and builds on a relationship between our two companies spanning more than two decades.
