Técnicas Reunidas said in a release dated 16 September 2026 that Hive Hydrogen South Africa (HHSA) has awarded it the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for a green ammonia production plant. The company describes the award as its entry into the South African market.

The facility is to produce approximately one million metric tons of green ammonia a year in an industrial zone in Nelson Mandela Bay. According to HHSA, the projected investment for the plant would reach $1.8 billion.

The scope of the FEED work includes hydrogen production. The release says the FEED contract is to be converted into an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for the construction of the plant, once the engineering is complete and a final investment decision is taken.

The release does not disclose the value of the FEED contract or its duration.
